In a surprising turn of events, the secretary for my company walked out on me last month. She got really scared about coming into work because of the virus that’s been spreading around, and wanted to avoid contracting it. It’s a shame that she left so fast, because I allowed all of the workers to work from home. I looked at some corporate secretarial services in Singapore, and found a secretary that would be able to fill her shoes. It was a good thing that the secretary was able to start working in such a short time frame, because there was a lot of work that needed to be done, and virus or no virus, the company had to keep going.
For the most part, our day to day operations have continued as they usually do, except everyone is using their web cams to work. I set up a room on a video chat program and gave everyone the information to log into it. I had to make the room with extra security because I didn’t want any stray person to wander into the room and get any private information from us. I also didn’t want anyone posting anything that might have been harmful or inappropriate. I’ve heard various stories about this happening in chat rooms.
Given how well the workers are interacting with the new secretary, and how well they’re working from home, I may be open to doing work from home days more often in the future after the virus has gone away. Everyone seems to like the idea of being able to work and relax in the comfort of their own home at the same time. To me, it does create a better setting that I feel gives me more energy to work. Not mention, I don’t have to wake up so early to get to the office.
